my dollies are in ART DOLL QUARTERLY...

so, i've been sitting on this a while now, but i can finally share with you that my work has been published in the winter 2013 issue of ART DOLL QUARTERLY:

hey! that's me!!! yippee!!!

needless to say, i am beyond thrilled!
it is all thanks to ART DOLL QUARTERLY that i became a doll artist to begin with.
i was recovering from a dislocated wrist and was in need of some way to keep my creativity alive, since i could no longer do beadwork.
i had turned to rubber stamping and paper crafts and become highly addicted to SOMERSET STUDIOS publications.
i was at the local bookstore one evening, looking at stamping magazines, when a figure on the front of another magazine caught my eye...

i bought the magazine that night, just because i thought this doll was the moste amazing thing i'd ever seen! little did i know that after reading it from cover to cover, i would find out that this was something I could do, too!!!
within a week i had my first block of paper clay, and i've never looked back!!!
sculpting gives me so much more freedom and creativity than beadwork ever did.
all the dreams and figures and creatures that have been in my mind since i was a kid are all coming back to me and coming to life.
i am the happiest when i am sculpting.

so, thank you, ART DOLL QUARTERLY....
i and am so honored and excited to be in this publication!!

this issue will be on newstands FEB 1, 2013.

i hope that everyone has a fantastic wednesday, and i guess i'm going to go do a little painting on 3 dolls i need to finish....

etsy shoppe update....

here are a few of the new dollies i've been working on the last week.
they are now available in my ETSY shoppe...

jean-pierre, the strongman

has a very handsome moustache

and loves his mama....

reginald is a ringmaster

he treats his employees very, very well

because reginald knows everyone's time is very important...

the carnival queen

feels very regal in her gold encrusted crown

and throws shiny beads to all her loyal subjects....

big, bad red

thinks longingly of running free

in the deep, dark woods...

sarah-anne is celebrating her birthday

but she's a little shy

she would rather be outside, dreaming underneath the clouds....

i hope everyone is having a great start to their week!!

my newest obsession...

...caran d'ache neocolor II water soluble crayons.

have a great week, everybody!!

new year! new paintings! new projects! oh my!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR everybody!!!!

i hope you all had a fantastically wondrous holiday season!
actually, mine was pretty good this year...and i usually LOATHE the holidays.
but, after everything we've been through this year, i was just thankful to be here and have the people i love with me.

i don't really make new year's resolutions. i think they are useless and put too much pressure on people. our whole lives are about being the best person we can be and getting as much out of life as we can...and you can do that on any day at any time.
in fact, the only goal i ever made after new year's that i kept was in 2008 when i decided i would drink "more, better wine". i kept that promise. oh, yeah!

but i do love the start of a new calendar year....the looking forward to what it will bring.
and of course, the new projects i can begin after the long holiday break!!

this year, i took a very long break and enjoyed kind of powering down and re-booting. i spent much of the looooooong drive to georgia and alabama thinking, plotting, and planning a new series of paintings i've been wanting to do.
here are the first few out of the gates:

this one is SOLD already. yay!

it's taken me a while to figure out how to get them to look the way i want, technique wise...and i discovered it quite by accident. the secret is gel medium! yeeeessss! finally. they are all texture-y and scratchy looking. yay again!

i just listed these little ones in my ETSY shoppe, and they are all under $40

so, that's what i've been working on for the last few days. and, now i have a massive amount of sculpting to start. but, i'm not quite there yet....i think i may spend another day or two painting, and while i'm doing that, perhaps i will start figuring out (or being told) what dolls want to be sculpted this month. they are all so finicky, you know.

but, that's about it for me at the moment.
i have lots i want to talk about, but it is the weekend, and i guess it can wait for another day.

i hope everyone is staying warm and loving those close to them and enjoying the pure-tee-hell out of their lives!!!
