well, let's see...what's been going on over here at casa de middleton?....
a lot. some good. some a mite scary.
first off, the good...
i would love to show you some work in progress shots of the latest batch of day of the dead dollies i've been working on. i shared the pencil line pics last week, and here they are getting their paint on:
this girlie was inspired by friend, conchita who suggested the monarch mask with the horns.
i have to say, she may be my new favorite piece of all time!!
this one is a tad more traditional. and her face came out longer and more skull like. happy accidents....
and here are the two of them in all their glory! ha ha!
they are still not completely finished, but pretty close.
i've also been working on some more pieces that hang on the wall....
this one was inspired by the abney park song "victorian vigilante".
i will make more of these. i promise!!
and a little masked victorian ringmistress.
aaaand...together. they are fairly small compared to the day of the dead pieces above.
i want to make some day of the dead dolls that hang, so that is next on the agenda.
so that's the good. here's the scary....
i think i may have mentioned this before - over the last couple of months (since november 2011 actually) i've been having trouble with my left ear. i went to the doctor in november 2011 for what i thought was an ear infection. i've seen 4 doctors since then and after many, many tests and trials with antibiotics and the lot, i've been diagnosed with a "glomus tympanicum tumor" which is a vascular tumor and according to my surgeon, major ear surgery. i won't give you the grisly details of what's about to happen to me, but i am considering having kamila mlynarczyk of woodedwoods make a doll for me to commemorate the occasion! ha ! i already feel like a cross between george weasley and frankenstein, and they haven't done anything to me yet....
i'm scheduled to have surgery the week of sept 24th. i've never had surgery or stitches or anything like this before and i'm a little freaked out, but i suppose it has to be done. at least they think it's fairly small and confined to my ear canal. evidently these things can attach to your jugular vein....but they don't think mine has. which is good!!
so, i guess i'll be dealing with that over the next few weeks, but in the meantime, i'm trying to concentrate on art, friends, and good food and good wine.
oh, i almost forgot --- one last thing to share. and this falls into the really good category...
if you are in the london, ontario area (or not-because they are online) i have 3 dolls at "the great doll harvest" show at dollirium art doll emporium.
"after the daughters of demeter carnival ball, 1833"
"oh, the devil of time"
"in the woods behind the midway"
i am beyond honored to be featured alongside some of the most talented and prominent doll artists working today!! it is truly a dream come true to have my dolls showcased at dollirium!!! i wish you could see the grin on my face!!!
i should have some finished shots of the day of the dead dolls later this weekend.
i hope everyone has a great one!
until next time,
