goth devil doll experiment...

happy friday everyone!
well, mardi gras officially, officially kicks off tonight, but since i feel that i am fighting off a little bug, i'm staying in - tonight's parades stink anyway - and hopefully i will stay well so i can enjoy all the hubub next weekend!

i've been working on a new piece this week...another experimental piece:

i've been wanting to do a more goth piece lately, so here's what i came up with...

she's all aged and crackled

and i love how her eyes came out.

i've been calling her "fallen idol"
she's no yellow eyed demon, but man! i watch waaay too much SUPERNATURAL...
it's coming out in my work, i think!...

enjoy your weekend!

new dollies added to my ETSY shoppe...

i added a few new items to the ETSY shoppe this afternoon...

"spring has sprung" is a little bit of a departure for me from my usual sideshow and day of the dead themes...

i wanted her to be a little pouty, a little sweet, and a lot pink!
she has little pink and orange flowers in her hair and is surrounded by swirling butterflies
since it's warmed up so much here over the last week or so, i thought a fresh, spring piece was in order!

but, i also finished a couple of new additions to my sideshow troupe...

this is gerilyn, another bearded lady.

gerilyn thinks her beard is too curly, but her husband thinks it's just perfect!
see the doubt on her face as she looks at him...
gerilyn is also decked out in her spring finest! pink and green are her favorite colors...

meet luigi. luigi if from rome, but he came to america because of a woman.
she broke his heart, and took all of his money.
he took to street fighting until he was recruited for a security position at a fair in the southeast.
from there, his strongman persona was born!

luigi is terribly sweet and loving. he would never hurt a fly....
well...

so, i hope you enjoyed seeing my newest creations...i really had fun working on them.
they always let me know who they are...

until next time,

something new! ...work in progress...

i'm just going to pop in for a seconds (i'm supposed to be working on yet another resume and cover letter), but i just had to share with you some pics of a few work in progress pieces...

this is the beginning of my steampunk piece for the ADO 1st quarter challenge.
truth is, i don't think i will finish her in time to make the challenge, but boy! has she been fun to work on...
and now i am completely and totally obsessed with all things steampunk (and am going to be introducing a line of steampunk inspired jewelry and dolls very soon)

she's the biggest doll i've made to date. i can't wait to start painting her (hopefully tonight)!

and here are some other new little WiPs...

i'm calling these "wall dolls" as they each have a little hook on the back for hanging on the wall.
i've been wanting to add limbs to my little dollies for a while, and after looking into my options - and thinking about how i wanted them to look - i decided they needed stationary limbs...so tah dah!
....and i added little cloven feet to them after i took these pics. they are soooo cool! i love cloven feet.

they are pretty tiny, all things considered. but i am very happy with how they are turning out..

so, that's a little update as to what's been going on in amberlandia.

well, guess i better get to work on that resume... grrrr...somebody buy some dolls so i won't have to go back to work!!! ;)

cheers!

a warming trend has snatched my muse...

it looks like we may be in for a bit of a warming trend for the next week here in the beautiful crescent city!
i guess mother nature got my memo!

there's not much going on here in the studio. the last week has had me crippled without my muse...every piece of clay i touch looks like crap. i have 3 dolls ready to paint and not a single one of them has any personality peeking up through the clay to me at all.
i have no idea what happened...well, maybe i do.
i thought i would try a few new sculpting tricks: i wanted to sculpt lips and add some more dimension to their upper torsos. it turned out horrible. i'm embarrassed. i thought i could feel it...
i'm not ever going to show you the pictures. they're bad.

so, today i am laying clay on some medium sized figures to be day of the dead grooms. no brides this time. all dudes. i really do love making their top hats.

these pieces turned out so wonderful to me, that i guess my creative side just needs to refuel before the next batch.

anyway....i think i'll go for a walk with my camera. maybe grab a drink.

so, wish me luck getting my mojo back!
ha!

some new carny folk are joining the show...

a sneaky peeky at the carny folk
getting ready to roll out for albuquerque...

imogene has a curly, heart shaped beard...

the human chrysanthemum was a late bloomer...

the tattooed lady keeps her family close to her heart...

the pisces girl is a fish out of water...

the fortune teller is seeing stars...

the barker knows your deepest fears and desires...

albert and ameila are split down the middle...

some of the group all together in row...

so, that's a little peek at what's been going on in the studio.

hope y'all have a wonderful tuesday!

happiness is new skellies...

good monday morning to all!

football season is over ( thank goodness ) and while i sported my saints tee yesterday in honor of what was last year, i worked on some new pieces that are heading to albuquerque this week:

over the weekend i picked up a new gallery here in new orleans: POET'S GALLERY on magazine street. jeanne has the coolest exhibits and hosts a doll show curated by christy kane every october. last year the show was amazing and featured such doll artists as colleen downs of loopy boopy, elizabeth mcgrath, sheri debow, and lateefah wright--just to name a few.

jeanne does amazing doll photography herself and she always has an interesting and wonderful show on her walls.
so, needless to say, i'm pretty psyched to be in this gallery...
so if you are in nola, drop in and check it out.
she completely cleaned me out of dolls and paintings.
now i have to get to work and fill my etsy shoppe back up...

on the home front, the job search has been at a standstill. i just haven't been able to get motivated to give it much more than the occasional nudge. that has to change, but man, it's been hard to get going on it!

i have so many thoughts on life and love right now, i would be here all day. and i've got way too much to do to get into that this morning, so i will share this one thing with you:

it's really been bothering me lately that no one seems to understand that THE most important thing to me in the world is to be happy. i don't understand why others don't seem to get it. everyone has an opinion on what i should do with my life, my art, my job. but they look at me like i've grown a third eye when i tell them how important it is for me to be happy with what i do for a living.
soooooo...  found this quote a few days ago and i haven't been able to get it out of my head:

"When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life."
  — John Lennon

it put A LOT into perspective for me. and turned my brain back on from the numb slumber it's been in since the beginning of the year...

i know the rest of the country has been immobilized by snowmageddon and here in the big sleazy, it's been cold and wet. soooo ready for spring, i can't even tell you.

i hope that you all have had a chance to pop over to the ADO site and check out all the wonderful items being given away during this blog event. i did some hopping last night and found some wonderful sites myself. i can only take full on football for so long.

well, i guess i should get moving. i have a tremendous amount to do today...

have a great monday!
