from halloween to dia de los muertos...

well, october has yet again, come and gone.
i always wonder why it seems to fly by so fast?

my mister and i met some friends out for a few drinks last night.
threw this together from my super bowl costume and some newly purchased face paint:

i wasn't in the mood for a bunch of meandering about, so it was lovely to sit and have a decent conversation-- and still enjoy the holiday.

today is dia de los muertos and i have been thinking not only about my mother and grandparents, but also the many relationships i have lost over the years.
fortunately, for every person who walks out of your life, someone else walks in...

here's to a great holiday season and to loving the ones you're with!

dia de los muertos dolls...

hello, monday.
please be nice to me today....
actually today is my friday! i have the next three days off {after today} and i am hoping to get a lot, a lot, a lot done.
wish me luck!

i just finished two pieces for the dia de los muertos art and music fiesta in shreveport:

this victorian lady turned out almost like i had planned her...but not completely.
i did find out that i don't really like working with the wool roving for hair!
it's always fun to experiment, but sometimes you find out that what you've been doing
is what you love....

this piece is for the community ofrenda and is in honor of my mother {her picture is on the front of the doll}.
she passed away when i was 8 and i've always wanted to make a piece for her.
the flower part is supposed to represent the chrysanthemum's { i think that's what they were} that my grandparents used to grow -- which remind me of them and of my mother, their daughter.
i was very pleased with how this one turned out.

so much is going on here - the weather is so beautiful and fall-ish and i am finding it hard to sit in my studio and work. but i am. sort of.

i have new dia de los muertos ornaments going to mariposa in a week or so and i'm working on some new pieces for the shoppe.

i'm working on being a better blogger...and i want to thank everyone who made the move with me over here! you all rock!!

anyway...off to the day job!!

stargazers, fish girls, and dreamers--oh my!!

happy sunday everybody!
sorry i've been away for so long...i've been burning the candle at both ends and it finally caught up with me...i've been feeling pretty craptastic these last few days, but i've had to suck it up and work, work, work anyway.
here's some pics of just a few things i just finished...

hester has dreamed of running away with the circus since she was a little girl...

hester is available in my ETSY shoppe

this is my favorite part of this doll! i wish everything i did turned out this well....

lila the fish girl...

available at Ragin' Daisy here in NOLA...
(and yes, to answer your question, kalaya, i did indeed cut out and put all of those "scales" on one at a time)

lorena the stargazer....

also available at Ragin' Daisy

she sees our future in the stars...

i've also been playing around with making some more ornaments:

these will also be at Ragin' Daisy this week....
so, i guess that's about it for now. sorry to overload you...there's just so much to tell you about!

well, i need to finish up a few things ( including getting my own hair in order) before mah boo comes in from germany tonight...

so behind, i'm catching up with myself...

lawdy! is it really almost the middle of october!?!
i can't believe how fast time flies these days....and october always seems to just rush by.
i guess things just start to speed up when the weather cools off a bit.
and of course, we arty types start to panic about having enough work for the holidays; there always seems to be a show to get ready for; etc, etc...

i've got a bunch of stuff in various stages of completeness - most of it for retail shops, my ETSY shoppe, and the dia de los muertos show in shreveport on the 29th.
but, i just had to take last night off...i couldn't do it. i could not work.
i watched a little tv and i read a bit.
then i fell asleep.

my friend, rita recommended this book to me:

i've really been enjoying it so far. i have a ton of tattooed lady dolls planned, but of course!

i also finally finished 2 hoochie coochie girls and listed them in my shoppe:

this is ginger anne

and this is rosie-red.

they'd love to retire from life on the road! won't someone help them...they really could use a good home!

like i said, mostly working on some dia de los muertos pieces, so i'll be posting them very soon.

i just ordered a light box and hopefully on my day off this week, i'll get to give it a whirl. if it works out, i'll post the link for anyone who's interested - because the price of this thing was absurd compared to all the stuff that came with it ( 2 lights, a tripod, and 4 backgrounds)...

well, off to mah day job!

getting in the spirit...

happy friday morning, everybody!
ha ha...it's getting very close to my favorite time of year....halloween and dia de los muertos.

i have no idea what i'm going to be this year for halloween, but i'm giving some serious consideration to a day of the dead theme.

last year i was a doll:

that's what we call recycling, here in nola--the conglomeration of several year's worth of costumes into one!
it may be the same this year...

i have been working on  A LOT of day of the dead pieces.
my most favorite so far are these little 2.5" ornies:

i got a chance to experiment with doll hair and i really quite enjoyed it!
these little darlings are going to be at RAGIN' DAISY here in nola by early next week...

i've also been working on a little pumpkin queen doll:

this is penelope. she only haunts the midway on all hallow's eve...

you can find penelope in my ETSY shoppe.

i guess that's about it for today.
so many ideas running rampant in my little noggin...who knows what will come out next!!

well, i'm off to have lunch with mah boo.

have a great weekend, everybody!

welcome! welcome! to our new home...

bonjour, everybody!
i am so glad you decided to follow us all over here to our new home at meandering along the midway!
and if you are just now finding us, welcome!

i have been working on a few new pieces that i wanted to share with you today....

the seer

ruby, the cooch-show girl

penelope, the pumpkin queen...

i've had so much fun working on these - especially penlope and ruby! i've been wanting to do cooch-show girls for a while, and i finally just jumped in and did it! i am re-vamping their bodies so they have hips, but since most of my experiments never really work out, we won't hold our breath, ok!?!

mostly i've been working on a bunch of day of the dead pieces for several shows i'm in in october.
and, as always, my faithful minion, cash is by my side...

i'll have those pics soon, i promise!

so, i guess it's back to work for both of us! that lion tamer isn't going to paint himself...

this blog is made for moving...

good friday morning, everyone!

i've been busy as a bee getting ready for a couple of day of the dead shows i was invited to over the next month. i hope to have some good pics to show you of the pieces very soon...

but, the reason i am here this morning it to let everyone know that i am moving YELLOW FLOWER to a new blog....

it'll be basically the same thing, but with a different URL.

it's something i've wanted to do for a while and i finally got up the nerve. i haven't tried to export this blog yet, and there is a pretty good chance it could all go to hell in a hand basket, but i've got to try.
so, if you loose me here...that's where i'll be.
the change will (hopefully) take place over the weekend.

i hope you will all follow me over to my new address.

and have a great great friday!!

it's not the heat...

oh. my. goodness.
it. is. hot!

i haaaate august in new orleans. like we're not sticky enough, you know...

i've been hiding out in the back room (i.e. my craft room) for the better part of this month ( that is, when i'm not at my day job) and i have no real desire to leave it at the present time!

i really feel like i haven't had much going on. just playing around a bit here and there..

i finished some cards and listed them on ETSY...

i started on a frida kahlo day of the dead doll that i was supposed to submit to an invitation only show here in new orleans, but last night i broke out in a rash from coming in contact with ylang ylang -- which i am highly allergic to, by the way ---it was in my dish soap of all the bloody effing things!! and now i'm sooooooo doped up on benadryl i can't hold the camera still to take the pictures!! ha ha! oh, well... here she is anyway in progress....

mr. cash has been fine ever since his little fluffy butt got dewormed. he did throw up in one of my shoes after eating a cheap treat daddy gave him, but apart from that, we've been cat-vomit free for almost a month!!

i've been working on a lot of other dolls. just some things i had in my head...

and i've gotten invites to two day of the dead themed shows in october, so work will begin on those pieces in the next few days (hopefully, i'll be done with the benadryl by then).

all in all i guess i've been in a bit of a hermit mode. i haven't been by to visit anyone -- in large part because my computer is crapping out on me all the time. the wireless went out, so i am now forevah tethered to the sofa. grr... i don't even like our sofa!!

and, since my eyelids are starting to droop and i'm misspelling pretty much every other word, i guess i'll call it a night and go watch some teevee....

hope everyone is doing well and i hope to catch up with everybody really really soon!!

oh, and i almost forgot!! i finally figured out how to sculpt lips!! whooo hoooo!!!
