work in progress...

good friday morning everyone!

i have to be somewhere this afternoon, so not much is happening in the studio today.
i thought i would share a few pics of some pieces in have in various stages of completion:

halloween witchy party girls surround a larger marie antoinette sculpture.
i'm not happy with ms. marie, and have to figure out how to make her better...
but these ladies are getting their hats and just turning out as cute a bug in a rug!

two more tattooed ladies. they are among my most time consuming pieces and of course, my favorite to make. but, all the little details put a strain on my wrist, which it appears never really healed properly last year. oh well. sometimes you gotta work through the pain!

i have no idea what i'm going to "tattoo" on their banners!!!
i have a few ideas, but i'm open to suggestions...

hope everyone has a great weekend!!

till then,

new work, confessions, and appreciation...

good wednesday morning everyone!

i gave you all a little sneak peek yesterday at some all hallow's eve pieces i've been working on , so today i thought i would go whole hog and show you pretty much everything!
mwaaa haa haaa....

wee devil figurines. they are about 3" tall by 2" wide. sweet, sly, mischievous little things they are.

wonder what she's thinking? i know... it's when is the 5th season of SUPERNATURAL going to be available on dvd. i've been wondering that myself, little miss!

wee black cat figurines. same size as the devils. these are available in my ETSY shop.

they are my favorites to make- and my black cat, cash enjoys helping me...

more wee black cats - but with a "twist". i experimented and placed halloween-ish words on their fronts ( thanks to nichola of  knickertwist's for the words ). i'm still not sure whether words are my style or not, but i thought " why not mix things up a bit".... so, the jury's still out on that one....

party pumpkin figurine. he's a little bigger than the wee pieces, but not as big as the large figurines. i will have to measure him. i thought he turned out well, and will be available here in new orleans at PLUM starting next month.

the crackle on him, just came out wonderfully! couldn't have been happier!

i guess that's it for new work - for now.
i have some wee dia de los muertos couples ready to go in the shop, some halloween party girls, and a marie antoinette getting ready to be antiqued. the girls will be staying here but marie is going in the ETSY shop.
i am afraid to list anything with a paper hat in the shop. scared silly to try and ship it, lets it should come off in transit...

in other news... my HARRY POTTER book club meets tonight. i know. nerd.
but, it's a chance to sip some wine and talk about my favorite books of all time with grown ups! ha ha! where's my wand?...

and i was lucky enough to be awarded a versatile blogger award

from annalee at ABSYNTHE & ARSENIC. i'm seriously poor at passing these on, but i wanted to post it here and say " thankee" to annalee for thinking enough of my little corner of the blog-o-verse to bestow such an award on little ole me.
so thankee!!

and now i will tell you seven things about myself that you may or may not know - and may or may not want to know:

1- i cannot and will not function without a cup of coffee first thing in the morning. and i drink the good stuff - yerka chaffe. but, now, alas, it is no longer available at whole foods...

2 - i have broken out in hives every time i've tried dating a man i wasn't interested in. mr. b checks every few months ( 5 years together, now ) to make sure i'm not itchy....and i'm not.

3 - i have a sociology degree and a psychology minor. would you like fries with that?

4- my favorite bands are the tragically hip and the decemberists, but my favorite "album" is the soundtrack from amelie

5 - i will always buy craft supplies before clothes

6 - i've been fired from more jobs than i've quit

7 - i have a not so secret passion for caviar. and again, i like the good stuff!

i guess that's about it for today....

have a great hump day everyone!

a drive down river road...

so, here i am, sitting in my studio, listening to duran duran and trying to keep mr. cash out of the clay...

never an easy job.
some days he lets me be, but most days he has to be right under me, no matter what i am doing.
and today has been one of those days... sigh.

yesterday i took a much needed break and the mr and i got out of the house for the day.
we took a lovely drive down river road...

and had an adventure searching for abandoned or destroyed plantation homes...

and the ghosts of long ago land owners, merchants, and craftsmen.

we gazed at unbelievable beauty...

both man made...

and natural...

we wrestled alligators...

and had a drink in a very historic setting..

all in all, it was a very good day. and a much much needed day of frivolity!

today i've been finishing up a few pieces i made last week and hope to have pics up tomorrow.

i hope that everyone had a lovely weekend and will have a great week ahead!

till then...

yesterday in the studio...

yesterday was a whirlwind of a painting day...

i may have mentioned that i've been lucky enough to line up some shows for myself AND that i picked up a retail shop here in new orleans on beautiful magazine street.
sooo... that means i am in manic production mode to make sure i have plenty of work when the time comes!

yesterday i spent a good portion of the day working on these dia de los muertos pieces:

this is a small finished figurine

my favorite part of sculpting these is making the hearts. i know! go figure....

a whole slew of pieces in the painting process. i like to work in a production style mode where i paint all the white parts, then add the red on all pieces, then black, and so forth. i find that my paint doesn't dry out as fast that way and i feel like i am making progress...

finished large size dia de los muertos couple. they have been painted and crackled. i still need to put a final coat of varnish on them and then add some finishing embellishments and they will be ready to go!
i think they are my favorite so far...

isn't he a happy gentleman!?!

and such a lovely lady...

today i am going to start on a few more halloween themed pieces: black cats, devils, punkins, and perhaps some festive party goers as well.

hope y'all have a great day!

happy saturday everyone!

it's been very rainy here for the last week...

a good time to be in the studio...

the first one will in fact be, the pandemonium shadow show, which we have been plotting this summer and will take place in october.
the second is a holiday show at the end of november and the third will be a valentine's show in february ( thank goodness mardi gras is late next year!)
so, that is very exciting!!
i better get to work...

do i get an "A" for effort....?

little bites of a big apple...

mr. b and i returned from our week long vacay in new york city this weekend...
we had such a wonderful time!!
mr. b's parents joined us and we did quite a lot of site seeing ( macy's, the intrepid, tiffany's, ground zero ); a lot of eating ( the four seasons, grammercy tavern, craft {{ i love you tom colicchio!!!}}, caracas arepas bar, artisanal wine bar); and saw THE LION KING which was so beautifully and originally done that i actually cried-- and i don't even like broadway shows.
we did a bit of shopping, a bit of toodling around, and the mr and i ate quite a bit of cheese and drank our fair share of vino.
so, i wanted to share a few pictures of our trip...
even though my photography skills could use some nurturing...

we stayed four blocks from grand central so that made getting around a lot easier.
we also had drinks one night at the campbell apartment, but i forgot to take a picture of that...

right of fthe plane ( yes, i'm still drugged in this picture ) we went directly to central park and walked around. i had never been so that was fun for me and the weather was really really nice

artisanal wine bar on 33rd. we ate here twice and both times it was very good. mr. b knows the sommelier - who used to work in publishing like the mr does - but i didn't get to meet him as his days off seemed to be the days we were there. maybe next time....

i made it over the ink pad in the west village and did a little stamp shopping on monday afternoon. it was a cute little store just packed to the brim with just about everything a paper crafter could want. they even had some invoke art stamps... but i had all the ones they carried already. the ladies were very nice and we even talked a bit about new orleans.

grammercy tavern has GOT to be my favorite restaurant of all time!! i've had 2 exquisite meals there and both have coincided with good company as well. this was, i believe, halibut with a dill cucumber sauce. very fresh and summery. i fogot to take a pic of my green bean salad which may very well be one of the best things i've ever eaten...

i took a walk up 38th one afternoon while everyone was either napping or doing other things and came across quite a few trim and bead shops. this one was wholesale only, but i found some further up the street where i could pick up a few things....

i MUST have this chair. now.

view from the museum of arts and design rooftop restaurant. the food was very good. surprise.
i dragged our little group there to see the jewelry in their collection, but it toally sucked. i think the only thing they had post-1985 was a piece of kiwon wang's, which i had seen before. oh well.
their current exhibit DEAD OR ALIVE was fascinating, however. but they, of course, did not allow pictures. the whole place was a little snooty. i had a lot of fun laughing at the artist's statements....

orchids on our lunch table...

me in full on GHOSTBUSTERS run down the steps at the new york public library.
hard to do in flip flops....

go gotta love the east village...

caracas arepas bar in the east village. oooooh sooooo good!!!!

we spent most of friday afternoon in ten degrees ( again, east village ) sipping wine. i don't know how we missed this place on our other trips here, but we know where it is now and we can go back.

this is wrong on SOOOOO many levels....

i want to live here.

or here...

i took about a gazillion more pics - most of them cheesy touristy stuff of just me being a goofball, so i guess that's all i can really share for now.

i am back in the studio with a vengeance as i picked up my first retail spot for the cirque du orleans figures and i have a kinda -sorta -maybe from the ogden museum of southern art to be part of a christmas show there with the cirque pieces... but we'll see. i'm not holding my breath for that one.

so, i will post pics later this week of what i'm up to and i hope to catch up with everyone as well.

have a great week!
